5 out of 5 stars Good value, precise cutting, high quality, "Twin Beauty" Made in Germany   March 29, 2008

I bought this as a replacement to a Henckels manicure set I bought in Germany 11 years ago. (It was stolen on a trip to Mexico) The 5 items are identical to what I had before, so I can say I've had 11 years of experience with this product. *This* Henckels "Twin Beauty" line is manufactured in nickel-plated carbon steel. They are less expensive than Henckel's "TWINOX" line, which is made of surgical stainless steel, but in my decade of experience the Twin Beauty product that is available here has not lost its sharpness over time. It is precise and easy to control. The tweezers have enough grip and purchase to pull out the most obstinate eyelash hair. It is not like your typical beauty salon tweezer, and the same can be said for the scissors.
The review written by S. Nadda presents some interesting questions that I'll try to answer: why two scissors? One is a nail scissor ((Henckels #47320-090), the other is a cuticle scissor (Henckels #49520-090). Having both is an advantage since each pair works better in certain situations than the other. The "divider flap" that she hates is just a shipping insert to prevent the contents from impacting one another when you receive them new. I too threw it out, as one naturally would expect with any protective packaging. I agree with the other reviewer that the cuticle pusher doesn't have much utility, at least for me, but I'm a man. Women may find more use. Also, the recommendation for Seki edge fingernail clippers is well made. The Seki edges are Made in Japan and for some reason much better than German equivalents. They cut hard nails like soft butter. This Henckels manicure set is Made in Germany, and you can really feel the quality.

One more point: the yellow leather case is great for several reasons: it is compact and light. It won't take much space when you travel, while the yellow color is easily visible when searching for it through your luggage. Finally it is a zip-around pouch, so you can conveniently add other manicure implements on the sides and they will sit securely with the original items. The zipper is of high quality and glides open and closed effortlessly. A Henckels manicure set with identical pieces will cost you 100 Euros in Europe ($150+), so the $99 price here at Amazon makes it a super value. It will easily last ten years, more if you don't get robbed as I did. For these reasons I give it a well-merited 5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Nice, but not quite there yet   February 8, 2008
I think this is a very nice product, of quality, but not quite what I expected of it. Here's what you need to know: 1) There are 2 scissors, why? I just need one. They look the same too. 2) The cuticle pusher thing, is plastic and the other tip is rubber. While functional, there are better cheaper ones at Walgreen's. I think Henckel should have put something of metal instead.

Overall the kit is classy and functional. I hate the divider flap that comes inside so I just don't use it. Also, I have added a Seki fingernal clipper to the kist and it fits good. Now it's more functional.
